Fontijne Holland – Experts for Sustainability

Redundant Weld Seam Oriënter

Introduction:

Fontijne Holland specializes in designing and constructing production equipment, particularly automated production lines for manufacturing steel passenger cars and truck rims. In certain stages of the production process, it is imperative to accurately orient the rim to the correct position relative to the weld seam. Currently, this orientation is achieved using a laser sensor that measures the reflection of a laser beam directed at the rim surface during rotation. The detection relies on the color change in the weld seam area. However, the existing system presents challenges, leading to unreliable orientation and difficulties in setup.

Project Overview:

The objective of this assignment is to develop a vision-based redundant orientation system to overcome the limitations of the current laser-based method. This new system should address the drawbacks of the existing technology, providing a more reliable and user-friendly solution for the precise orientation of rims in relation to the weld seam.

Project Scope:

  1. Requirements Specification:
    – Conduct interviews with stakeholders to understand their specific needs and expectations.
    – Document detailed requirements for the redundant weld seam oriënter system.
  2. Solution Investigation:
    – Research and explore potential vision-based solutions for rim orientation.
    – Evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of each solution in meeting the specified requirements.
  3. System Design:
    – Based on the identified requirements and the chosen solution, design a vision-based redundant orientation system.
    – Clearly define the components, processes, and interfaces involved in the system.
  4. Prototyping and Testing:
    – Develop a prototype of the designed system.
    – Conduct rigorous testing to ensure the reliability, accuracy, and user-friendliness of the  orientation system.
    – Iteratively refine the design based on test results.
  5. Documentation:
    – Maintain comprehensive documentation throughout the project, including design specifications, testing protocols, and any modifications made during the development process.

Project Deliverables:

  1. Stakeholder interview transcripts and summary.
  2. Detailed requirements specification document.
  3. Research report on potential vision-based solutions.
  4. System design documentation.
  5. Prototype of the redundant weld seam oriënter system.
  6. Testing results and analysis.
  7. Final documentation summarizing the entire project, including any lessons learned and recommendations for future improvements.

Timeline:

The project is to be completed within the specified deadline. A detailed project plan outlining milestones and deadlines need to be provided upon project initiation.
Note: Regular progress updates and collaboration with Fontijne Holland personnel are expected throughout the project to ensure alignment with the company’s goals and requirements.
